How to onboard remote employees
How can you create a feeling of belonging among new team members?
Good employee onboarding can increase employee retention by 82% and improve productivity by over 70%. Yet only 12% of employees strongly agree that their organization does a great job at employee onboarding.
Nicole Vasquez, the Co-Founder and Chief People Officer of Deskpass, created a remote onboarding process that has allowed her to effectively scale the company since 2015. She talked with us about how to communicate company values, and took us through her remote onboarding process for new employees.
Topics we explored:
- How to validate your onboarding process
- Onboarding asynchronously
- Voluntary intern programs
- How to communicate values and culture to new employees.

SafetyWing
Sondre co-founded SafetyWing together with Sarah Sandnes and Hans Kjellby.
Born in Bergen, Norway, he studied economics and computer science, before starting work as a policy advisor for the government of Norway advising on social policies. After getting frustrated with the slow pace of government change, Sondre first founded SuperSide (YC W16), a platform for freelance designers. It was here he discovered the lack of a safety net for online remote workers. SafetyWing was then born with the aim of building a global social safety net.
